Sergeant Jonathan Ellis has retired from the Southaven Police Department after a career spanning patrol, traffic, SWAT, the department’s SID, training, patrol supervision and narcotics, the department said. Family, friends and coworkers gathered to mark his retirement and honor his career milestone.
Ellis graduated from the Police Academy at the top of his class, according to the department. In SWAT, he served as second-in-command, instructor, sniper and breach team leader. The department said he was involved in hundreds of felony arrests, including the apprehension and prosecution of dangerous suspects through high-risk search warrants.
His work contributed to the seizure of hundreds of thousands of dollars in narcotics, property and currency, the department said. It also contributed to an investigation of a drug trafficking organization that resulted in what the department described as the first narcotics-related RICO case in Southaven history…
