Fairfax County is initiating a 90-day noise-abatement pilot program in early 2027 to identify and fine drivers of excessively loud vehicles.
The program will use a four-point halo microphone to determine depth and spatial location, clearly identifying the noise source. There will be a fifth microphone below, which measures sound pressure levels and connects to a wide-angle camera. Two high-definition, directional cameras will take separate videos of the passing vehicles to provide double-blind evidence of the noise and the identified vehicle. The devices will be provided by Blue Line Solutions.
