Newport News: Applications for Housing Grants

Newport News homeowners struggling with housing costs can now apply for help through a new city grant program.

The ResidentFirst Housing Relief Grant Program, which began accepting applications Thursday, provides income-based housing assistance to eligible homeowners who live in the city. The program has $300,000 available, and grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the money runs out. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 31; those submitted after the deadline will not be processed.

“We understand the real financial pressures affecting residents across our community,” Vice Mayor Curtis D. Bethany III said. “This initiative puts real dollars back into the hands of homeowners who need support most, while also serving as a pilot for future efforts to expand and strengthen relief based on real needs and results.”…
