Power mostly restored following MidAmerican Energy outage in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — Power has mostly been restored following a power outage affecting more than 17,000 MidAmerican Energy customers on Des Moines’ south side Friday morning.

According to MidAmerican’s outage map, only 93 customers were still without power as of 9:46 a.m.

Cleanup underway after 25 train cars derail in Marion County

A representative for MidAmerican Energy said the outage began at 5:44 a.m. and initially affected 17,900 customers. The cause is being attributed to a component failure at a substation, and several crews are working on repairs.

While the repairs are being made, MidAmerican said it is working to reroute circuits around the issue to restore power faster. More than 2,000 customers had power back around 7:51 a.m., and another 11,000 should have power back within 30 minutes, according to the company…
