The Laguna Beach City Council recently received an update from Southern California Edison (SCE) representatives regarding the utility company’s Targeted Undergrounding (TUG) program, which is set to begin construction in the city next year.
The TUG program is a wildfire mitigation initiative that plans to underground the overhead electrical lines identified as high-risk for failure during high-risk events. The undergrounding is designed to minimize the threat of downed power poles and lines caused by vehicle accidents or weather incidents.The TUG program is scoped to include five specific circuits within Laguna Beach, totaling over 11 miles of work through 2028.
