KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Hundreds of people walked through the rain at Zoo Knoxville Saturday morning for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising money and awareness in the fight against the disease.
A walk with rain, not complaints
Volunteer Dana Hart said the weather did not change the mission.
“The weather’s not the best. We’re not complaining. We’re here. We’re happy. It’s a great crowd. You know, a little rain never hurt anyone, so as we said, rain or shine,” Hart said. “The turnout has been good today, considering the weather. We see lots of families, lots of umbrellas, lots of raincoats. But people are happy to be here because they understand the cause.”
Why they walk
For many at the event, the walk represents someone. Families walked in memory of loved ones they lost to Alzheimer’s and in support of those still living with the disease.
For Hart, the reason to walk is personal…
