Jackson County jury convicts Eschliman in elderly contractor scam

A Jackson County jury convicted Daniel Eschliman of financially exploiting an elderly couple and taking more than $42,000 from them in connection with a home construction project, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Eschliman obtained money from the couple over a six-month period while repeatedly promising to complete an addition to their home. Instead, authorities said, he spent the money on himself.

Hanaway said financial exploitation can harm families and undermine trust within communities. She said residents who invest their savings in home improvements should receive honest services rather than deception. Hanaway credited the victims with reporting the alleged fraud, which allowed authorities to investigate and prosecute the case.
