After a near miss, Julie Maday makes her case for a seat on MSU’s board

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Julie Maday, a former Novi City Council member, is running for the Michigan State University Board of Trustees.

In Michigan, university boards at MSU, the University of Michigan and Wayne State are elected on a statewide ballot. They don’t have primaries, and state party conventions choose nominees in the spring. The boards have eight members who serve staggered eight-year terms. Every two years, two board seats are up for election.

Maday, of Novi, is a Republican challenging MSU Board Chair Brianna Scott, D-Norton Shores, and Trustee Kelly Tebay, D-Ypsilanti. Each party can submit two candidates for the November election, and the top two candidates will win the seats. Maday is running alongside state Sen. Roger Victory, R-Hudsonville. Voters can choose up to two candidates on their ballots.
