‘Bold and arrogant’: Edmund Ford Jr. to be sentenced

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Edmund Ford Jr., former Shelby County Commissioner, is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty to five counts of tax evasion and attempted tax evasion.

As part of that plea deal, Ford Jr. immediately resigned from the Shelby County Commission and agreed never to serve in elected office in Tennessee again.

He now faces up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

What comes next after Edmund Ford Jr.’s guilty plea

Ford Jr. was taken into federal custody in February of 2025 and charged in an indictment with bribery and kickbacks concerning federal funds and six counts of attempted tax evasion.

The 17-page indictment accused Ford Jr. of using his public office to secure grant funds for three undisclosed non-profits and then “corruptly” receiving financial payments from those same three organizations…
