Deputies Find Driver Unconscious on Highway — Then He Reaches for a Gun, Sheriff Says

A Colorado deputy approaching what initially looked like a disabled vehicle found a driver apparently unconscious behind the wheel on U.S. Highway 24, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle had front-end damage and a flat driver’s-side tire when deputies encountered it around 9 p.m. Sept. 29 in Cimarron Hills. An open alcohol container was also visible inside.

Deputies called for medical personnel, but the encounter changed as the driver began waking up…
