National Night Out held after violent weekend

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — National Night Out events were held across the Las Vegas Valley on Tuesday, including in downtown Las Vegas just four days after the deadly shooting in the Arts District that claimed the life of a 15-year-old.

The annual outreach effort for first responders was held at six locations, including the Civic Center Plaza. Mayor Pro Tem and Ward 3 Councilmember Olivia Diaz told 8 News Now that people living in the downtown area are still reeling over the shooting.

“We’re reeling over the loss of a 15-year-old, and we’re going to continue to be in that healing journey and process,” Diaz said. “Our hearts are with the victims of that event, but I think just acknowledging the response that Metro had that night and them continuing to still be here for us is amazing.”

National Night Out attendees included lifelong Las Vegas residents Rachel Rose Esguerra, her sister Bianca, and Bianca’s boyfriend, Kamarius Carter. They said they regularly bring their family and children to enjoy the free activities and meet first responders.
