MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A Flood Watch has been issued for Manatee County and surrounding portions of west central Florida as a slow-moving frontal boundary and tropical moisture combine to bring heavy rain throughout Thursday.
Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop and persist across the region from early Thursday morning through Thursday evening.
What’s happening
Some storms could produce locally heavy rainfall, with totals ranging from 1 to 3 inches. Isolated areas could see 5 or more inches of rain.
Who’s affected
The Flood Watch includes Manatee County, both coastal and inland areas. It also covers:
- Coastal and inland Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough and Pasco counties
- Pinellas and Sumter counties
What to expect
Excessive runoff from the heavy rain could lead to flooding in several areas. Rivers, creeks and streams may overflow their banks. Low-lying and flood-prone locations are at greatest risk. Poor drainage areas and urban neighborhoods could see street flooding.
What residents should do
Officials advise avoiding driving through flooded roadways. Residents are urged to monitor local weather updates throughout the day as conditions develop, prepare for possible travel delays if flooding impacts local roads, and keep pets and outdoor items secured in case of sudden flooding…
