Chimdi Chekwa Breaks Down How Chip Kelly’s Offense Can Work for Buckeyes

The NCAAF world was shocked when former UCLA head coach Chip Kelly decided to leave the school to become the offensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Kelly had been an OC for colleges like Oregon, where he had a ton of success.

Chimdi Chekwa of Bleav in Buckeye Football discussed playing against Kelly’s offense, and how he might need to temper his expectations with the talent that he has now versus when he was at Oregon.

“And he had guys like when LaMchael James, LeGarrette Blount, Kenjon Barner just run all over teams. The one thing we have to keep in mind as well is that that was his Oregon offensive line and he coached in the NFL as well. And he had a lot of success with NFL-level talent. And I think this Ohio State team has a different level of talent than he had. Sometimes you got to do what you got to do with what you got.”

Kelly has had talent on the offensive side of the ball with each team he has been with, even UCLA. Chekwa is not stating that Ohio State does not have playmakers, but it may not be the style of talent that he is accustomed to.
