Evans High School: Lay coach charged for ‘inappropriate relationship’ with student

EVANS, Ga. (WJBF) – Evans High School announced Tuesday that a lay coach has been charged and is no longer working with the school after administrators were notified of an “inappropriate relationship” with a student off campus.

According to the school, administrators were notified on Oct. 26 and Columbia County School District Police were immediately contacted to investigate..

“Montel Watters has been criminally charged by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and will
no longer be working with the team or school in any capacity,” a letter from the school states.

The school added, “Safety of students and staff is a top priority and the CCSD does not condone nor does it tolerate inappropriate relationships.”

People are asked to report suspicious behavior should be immediately to a school administrator or the Columbia County School District anonymous Tip Hotline at (706) 541-3600.
