Denver Police: Trafficking of migrants occurs in Mile-High City

AURORA, Colo. — In the past week, resident reports of trafficking occurring in Aurora among the migrant community have grabbed headlines. Now Denver Police say trafficking is occuring there, too.

The Denver Police Department released this statement to the author of this article:

“The Denver Police Human Trafficking Unit has proactively engaged with newcomers, providing both anti-trafficking resources and trafficking reporting methods. These efforts are ongoing and DPD continues looking for opportunities to engage with any potential human trafficking victim on a regular basis.

“The Human Trafficking Unit has investigated complaints of human trafficking within the newcomer community, and information obtained confirms there are occurrences of this criminal activity. These ongoing investigations are complex and inherently present challenges to identifying human traffickers. The Denver Police Department has not been provided any specific information regarding minor newcomers being human trafficked within the City and County of Denver. Anyone with knowledge of minors or adults being human trafficked are encouraged to contact the Denver Police Department or to submit tips through Metro Denver Crime Stoppers, through which tips can be submitted anonymously.
