19-month sentence handed to child actor for violating probation

Former “Home Improvement” child actor Zachery Ty Bryan was sentenced Friday, March 20, to 19 months in prison for violating the terms of his probation after a 2023 fourth-degree domestic violence assault conviction.

Bryan, 44, appeared remotely while incarcerated at a California jail serving a 16-month sentence for driving under the influence, about two weeks after Lane County Circuit Judge Bradley Cascagnette issued a bench warrant for Bryan’s arrest for his no-show at a scheduled court hearing in Lane County.

Bryan’s defense attorney, John Kolego, told the court March 2 Bryan had been jailed, with Friday’s sentencing based on a Dec. 3 show cause order alleging Bryan:

  • Failed to abstain from using intoxicants
  • Failed to comply with geographic restrictions imposed as part of his probation
  • Had prohibited contact with the assault victim
