Red flag warning issued for South Alabama as wildfire risk spikes Saturday

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — South Alabama is facing a high risk of wildfires on Saturday, as dry conditions persist, winds gusts increase and humidity remains low. The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning, which is in effect from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday. Hundreds of volunteer fire fighters throughout Mobile County are bracing for what could be a busy and dangerous weekend. Fire chiefs say conditions are primed for flames to spread quickly, and warn it won’t take much to spark a wild fire.

“A cigarette being thrown out your vehicle can start a 2-acre fire,” said Seven Hills Volunteer Fire Chief Matt Waltman.
