2 Pensacola men sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting at local law enforcement

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Two men have been sentenced to 30 years behind bars after officials with Florida’s Attorney Office said both shot at local law enforcement, trying to kill them.

Florida’s Attorney Office hosted a press conference Monday in partnership with Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, Santa Rosa County Chief Deputy Randy Tifft, Pensacola Police Chief Eric Winstrom and more.

“When I hear of the stories where they’re shooting at, trying to kill law enforcement officers, whether they’re federal officers or local officers, I smile with a sense of pride,” said Sheriff Simmons. “Not because they try to shoot and kill one of our officers, but because they weren’t successful.”

United State Attorney John Heekin said 22-year-old Darrion Finley fled from deputies in a stolen car, then fired a 9-millimeter pistol into a deputy’s vehicle.
