Convicted felon accused of firing shots at North Charleston apartment

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The North Charleston Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly fired shots into an apartment Saturday morning.

Lamont Mitchell Jr., 24, is charged with first-degree assault and battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment on Van Buren Avenue after a violent incident involving a firearm. Police said Mitchell, who was visiting a woman, became loud and aggressive.

When she asked him to quiet down because the four children were still asleep, he grew angrier and slapped her. As she moved away toward the kitchen, he allegedly fired two shots at her inside the apartment, waking the four children, who reported hearing loud bangs and seeing smoke…
