E-bike summonses are surging in this bike-friendly city. Here’s why.

Even before New Jersey’s strict new e-bike law takes effect in July, one of the state’s most bike-friendly cities is cracking down on motorized two-wheelers.

Hoboken Police said it had issued more than 160 summonses over a three-month period that began in January for violations that include riding on sidewalks and running red lights or stop signs.

“We recommend everybody follow the rules of the road when you utilize e-bikes,” Sgt. Francisco Rosa, head of the department’s traffic and transportation bureau, said in a video on the department’s Facebook and Instagram pages…
