Georgetown Oaks residents thank first responders for swift action in weekend fire

GEORGETOWN, Ga. (WSAV) — Following a devastating fire early Sunday morning, residents of Georgetown Oaks Apartments stood in the complex’s parking lot and assessed the damage to their homes. They wouldn’t be here to see another day if it weren’t for the swift actions of local law enforcement and fire personnel.

The fire was reported to the Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD) around 4 a.m. According to the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), Officers Thomas Velte and Brandon Lowe were the first to arrive on scene.

Velte and Lowe were able to locate Tanasia Grant from a third-story window. Grant told WSAV that she had no other option but to throw her little girls, ages three and five, out the window. The officers were waiting with their arms open to catch them…
