Lafayette judge puts Comeaux High closure on hold temporarily

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — A judge has halted the closure of Comeaux High School and set a trial date for a lawsuit challenging the Lafayette Parish School Board’s decision.

The ruling forces the Lafayette Parish School System to pause its plans to close Comeaux High. The judge also scheduled a trial for April 29 to determine the outcome of the lawsuit and the fate of the school.

Suzanne Lajaunie, the plaintiff in the case, is suing LPSS, alleging it violated open meeting and ethics laws during the decision-making process. The school board voted 5-2 on March 12 to close Comeaux High because of declining enrollment and to save more than $2 million annually…
