Maryland Issues Bear Warning As Hungry Black Bears Emerge With Rising Temperatures

The alert comes as temperatures rise and bears leave their winter dens, prompting increased activity in parts of Maryland, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

“After months of not eating or drinking, bears are hungry and in search of easy food,” Jonathan Trudeau, Game Mammal Section Leader for DNR’s Wildlife and Heritage Service, said.

“Black bears typically focus on finding water first and then high-fiber foods, like skunk cabbage and grasses, but they will locate anything that resembles the scent of food.”…
