GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A former Grand Rapids firefighter battling terminal cancer is on a mission to help other firefighters and their families facing the same fight.
Edward DeMaagd said he has seen the impact of a cancer diagnosis firsthand.
“Firefighters are used to helping and not getting helped. There are three gentlemen that are just a little bit older than me because of the type of gear they wore. All three of them developed bladder cancer, and it was the exact same strain. Two of them noticed their symptoms and went and got treated. The third gentleman, his wife also had cancer, so he ignored his own and he passed on,” DeMaagd said…
