Citgo terminal near Grand River declared PFAS contamination site

FERRYSBURG, Mich. (WOOD) — A Citgo terminal in Ottawa County has been declared a PFAS contamination site.

The Michigan PFAS Action Response Team made the announcement on Tuesday. The terminal is on Third Street, less than a half-mile away from the Grand River.

According to MPART, there were three petroleum releases in the 1990s that required extensive clean-up and environmental monitoring. Citgo submitted a site investigators report to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy late last year.

Testing around the property showed elevated levels of several PFAS compounds. The highest was perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, also known as PFOS. The highest sample reported 8,900 parts per trillion. The maximum contaminant level in Michigan is 16 ppt…
