STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Susan E. Wagner High School’s jazz band welcomed professional trumpeter Tatum Greenblatt on Tuesday for a four-hour workshop as it prepares for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival, scheduled for April 30 to May 2.
The Sea View school is the only one in New York City selected for the event and has qualified for the fourth year in a row. Wagner placed second in the 2023 competition.
Greenblatt, who performs with The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and has long played with the Grammy-winning Mingus Big Band, helped students refine their performance with a fresh perspective…
