More snow? What to expect for second storm on Friday

DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado just saw some of its last snow of the season on Tuesday, but before the summer, another storm is on the way.

This winter was a less-than-impressive one with little snow and warm temperatures. After a historically low snowpack, several ski areas closed early. However, Colorado finally saw a few inches on Tuesday, and one last push for snow is still in the forecast.

How much did it snow in Colorado on Tuesday?

A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued ahead of Friday. Here’s everything you need to know about the incoming storm:

Timing

Temperatures will stay in the mid-60s to 70s on Wednesday and Thursday in Denver, but in the mountains, the Pinpoint Weather team is tracking a storm moving in late Thursday night.

That storm builds on Friday with snow in the Front Range by late morning. The snow then tapers off into the late afternoon, and skies start to clear late night heading into Saturday. In Denver, showers will arrive in the metro around noon and linger through the early overnight hours.

Totals

The Pinpoint Weather team is expecting a light dusting to an inch along the Palmer Divide and foothills. Mountain towns have a better shot at snow with a few inches on the forecast.

The metro could see a light coating on some grassy surfaces, but the city won’t see much, if any snow. While not much snow is expected in the metro, the storm could bring temperatures that dip below freezing on Friday.

Totals are still changing as warm temperatures could melt some of the accumulation.

Impacts

Since temperatures could dip into the 20s, the Pinpoint Weather team said people should expect slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses and off-ramps, and wet roads on Friday and heading into Saturday morning.

A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued due to the road conditions and hard freeze.

While Denver likely won’t get much, if any, snow, temperatures drop below freezing on Friday night, and the Pinpoint Weather team suggests disconnecting hoses and covering or bringing in sensitive spring plants.
