Staten Island’s religious leaders enter fight over rising transportation costs

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Framing rising transportation costs as a matter of economic survival, religious and community leaders from across Staten Island rallied Thursday to back a proposed insurance‑fraud crackdown they say could ease the financial strain on working families.

Bishop Victor Brown of Mt. Sinai United Christian Church, in partnership with Citizens for Affordable Rates, led the event at the Mobil gas station at 231 Bay St. in Tompkinsville, where a regular gallon of gas cost $3.99. He was joined by leaders of multiple faiths, community advocates and concerned residents.

Bishop Brown highlighted how global tensions, tariffs and rising gas prices have increased everyday costs for hardworking Staten Island families just trying to survive.
