Huntsville police chief discusses new recruiting efforts to hire 75 officers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Police Department is now working with Crimson Recruiting Services, LLC. to hire more officers and properly address the city’s growth.

Huntsville Police Chief Kirk Giles said the city is looking to hire 75 officers to fill open positions, but stressed that the department can adequately respond to any emergency situation in the city with its current staff.

Over the past five or so years, Giles said the department has faced challenges with hiring qualified officers, adding that less cadets are joining the police academy than before. He said the Mobile-based recruiting agency has worked with other police departments in the state and has seen success…
