STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Longtime Staten Islander Nicholas “Nicky” Guidice had been battling melanoma for about a year and he seemed to be doing well, but he and his daughters were taken by surprise when the disease quickly took a tragic turn.
The 67-year-old, known for his thoughtful nature and sharp wit, lost his life on Tuesday. He left behind two devastated Annadale daughters, struggling now to pay for a respectful funeral for the man who lit their lives with laughter.
“It turned downhill really quickly,’’ said his daughter, Alana, 28, of the cancer, noting that his diagnosis happened coincidentally as he was in a hospital for an unrelated issue. His thumb nail, through which a black line had long been visible, had become infected and subsequent blood tests provided the devastating diagnosis, she said…
