Four eastern Washington sheriffs argue against new law enforcement leader requirements in first court hearing

PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. — A new Washington law that establishes certain criteria, like a mandatory background check and experience requirements, to be a sheriff or police chief, is getting pushback from the very people it applies to.

In court on Thursday, four eastern Washington sheriffs from Spokane, Pend Oreille, Stevens and Ferry counties argued against the new state law.
