MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – The Montgomery County section of Huckleberry Trail reopened effective April 17, 2026, after closure in November 2025, Montgomery County announced.
“The Montgomery County portion of the Huckleberry Trail is open to pedestrians and cyclists following the completion of a major engineering and construction project,” the county said.
The upgrades included:
- Replacement of three bridges
- New concrete abutments
- New stormwater infrastructure
- New steel bridge structures
- Refurbished surface materials
- New asphalt approaches
The $1 million project was cash-funded using money that was set aside over several years for Parks and Recreation improvements, Montgomery County said.
