Revised Banks plan includes new arena, ‘iconic tower’

CINCINNATI (Cincinnati Business Courier) – A revised urban design plan for the Banks calls for a new arena to be built at the current Heritage Bank Center site, an “iconic tower” on the largest remaining vacant lot and major public subsidy in order to deliver “a district that feels like a neighborhood on ordinary days and a destination during extraordinary ones.”

Planners and steering and advisory committees of city, county, Bengals and Reds officials, as well as other business owners and downtown residents, submitted the plan to the Cincinnati Planning Commission on April 13 for future consideration, Phil Beck, the Banks project executive, told the Business Courier.

Perkins & Will, MKSK, HR&A, Nelson/Nygaard and Kolar Design were the consulting team hired by the city and the county to develop the plan. The city and county have agreed to work together to jump-start development along the riverfront, which has been stalled since the Covid-19 pandemic began in 2020…
