‘Save Ballard Rail’: Sound Transit’s potential cuts to light rail expansion face pushback

SEATTLE — People living in Ballard are pushing back on Sound Transit’s potential plans to cut or significantly scale back a voter-approved Link light rail expansion into their neighborhood.

The community-led group Save Ballard Rail organized a march and rally in Ballard on Sunday to show support for the completion of the full project. Hundreds met at Gemenskap Park and then marched along the promised light rail line in Ballard and Interbay.

Voters approved Sound Transit 3, or ST3, in 2016, which included light rail extension into Ballard, West Seattle, Snohomish County, Tacoma, and more.
