Like many middle-aged Tennesseans, I grew up with an evangelical orthodoxy. In fact, during my formative teenage years, I was in church every time the doors were open. When you immerse yourself that deeply in a culture, a few ideas still stick long after you’ve left.
One of those ideas — taken from a verse in 1 Corinthians —popped in my head this week as I was getting ready to vote in my county’s primary election: “The Devil is the author of confusion.”
Even though I haven’t believed in a devil for years, I sure as hell believe in confusion. And, I’ve already witnessed an abundance of it since early primary voting started this week…
