ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. YOVASO, which stands for Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety, works year-round to push driving safety. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the number one cause of death for teens is “unintentional accidents,” which includes motor vehicle crashes. That’s why YOVASO was created: to get teens to start thinking about driving safety.
“If you’re on the road, your main goal is to keep not only you safe, but keep whoever’s in your car safe,” said Taylor Gruse, the president of Knight Aide, the YOVASO club at Cave Spring High School. “So if you’re distracted, that puts everyone around you at risk, and you don’t want to be putting someone else at risk just for one text message.”
