Records question what UVU knew about ex-fire captain’s conduct

OREM, Utah (KUTV) — Newly unsealed court documents are raising questions about what Utah Valley University may have known — and when — regarding allegations of inappropriate behavior involving former Salt Lake City Fire Department Capt. Christopher Burk.

Burk, who also worked at UVU as an emergency medical technician instructor, was convicted in February of several felony sex crimes.

According to a search warrant affidavit filed by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, detectives executed a warrant in January 2026 seeking records from the university related to Burk’s employment and any reports of misconduct…
