USACE issues small craft advisory for Arkansas River

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System across Arkansas following a surge in river flows.

Officials say heavy rainfall in eastern Oklahoma last week has pushed Arkansas River flows above 70,000 cubic feet per second at Trimble Lock and Dam, the threshold at which advisories are typically issued.

According to the Corps, these elevated flows pose a danger to boaters. Strong currents and large debris moving downstream can pose significant risks, particularly for smaller recreational vessels…
