CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – The corner of Musser Street and Pratt Avenue in Carson City doesn’t look like a place where sports history would be made. But in 1897, a highly anticipated heavyweight championship fight was relocated — and Nevada’s state capital suddenly found itself hosting a moment that would ripple through boxing and beyond.

Boxing promoter and historian Tommy Lane said the Corbett–Fitzsimmons bout wasn’t originally supposed to happen in Nevada.
