Student says school officer who injured her should be fired

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The mother of an Evansville high school student says a school resource officer handcuffed her daughter, picked her up and slammed her to the ground after an altercation with another student. The incident took place on April 16 at the Academy for Innovative Studies, or AIS. With no where else to turn, family and supports of AIS 9th grader Alyanna Johnson stood outside the school, using their voices.

“Look what he did to my face,” exclaimed the 15-year-old with fellow protestors. “Nobody should shut me down and nobody is going to shut me down because there should be justice for me for him body slamming me on the ground,” says Alyanna.

The family says Johnson and another student were involved in an altercation that led to a school resource officer (SRO) to get involved. The school says Johnson did not comply with the officers commands, and that is when Johnson says she was handcuffed and thrown to the ground.
