Nevada’s Madison Clark perseveres through rare injury to rank among nation’s top hitters

Growing up in the small town of Jamestown, Calif., a gateway to Yosemite National Park, Madison Clark had a strong opinion of Reno. And it wasn’t positive.

Clark had visited the Biggest Little City plenty of times and never really liked the area, so much so the prep softball star had no interest in taking an official visit to Nevada when then-Wolf Pack coach Linda Garza recruited her.

“I was, like, ‘Uh, Reno, I don’t think so’,” Clark said. “My teammate at the time was about to go on a visit, and she’s, like, ‘Just come with me. What can it hurt?’ We’d come up a few times as a family and stayed downtown and went to a couple football games and went to a few softball games, and I just was, like, ‘I really don’t like it.’ I just wasn’t super drawn to the atmosphere. But I hadn’t been here for a few years, so then when I came on my visit it was a different perspective.”…
