Atlanta man sentenced to 15 years in MARTA station shooting

ATLANTA — An Atlanta man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after firing a gun at a stranger inside a busy downtown transit station, federal officials said.

Robert Lyles, 43, was sentenced after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

The shooting happened Aug. 4, 2022, at the Five Points MARTA station in downtown Atlanta. Investigators said Lyles got into an argument with another man on the platform. After a few minutes, he pulled out a stolen pistol, fired a shot toward the man and ran away…
