Big-Box Shakeup As Rooms To Go Targets Former West Palm Beach Hotel

Rooms To Go is looking to turn a former hotel along Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard into a sprawling furniture showroom, potentially adding another big-box giant to one of West Palm Beach’s busiest shopping stretches. The city’s Plans & Plats Review Committee is set to take its first public look at the proposal on Thursday, the opening move in what could be a notable hotel-to-retail flip if it makes it through the city review gauntlet.

According to the South Florida Business Journal, the filing tags the property at 1800 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd in West Palm Beach and formally drops the project into the city’s review pipeline. The outlet reports that the application is scheduled to go before the committee this week.

Where The Store Would Go

The South Florida Business Journal characterizes the parcel as a former hotel site. The 1800 Palm Beach Lakes address also appears online as the location of the Best Western Palm Beach Lakes Inn, placing the property on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard close to major retail clusters and outlet centers. That puts any future showroom within quick reach of I‑95 and steady retail traffic, the kind of visibility big-format furniture chains tend to chase.

How The City Review Works

The city’s Planning Division uses the Plans & Plats Review Committee as an early filter for site plans, with pre-application meetings typically held with staff before items land on the committee’s agenda. The panel usually meets in person twice a month at 1 p.m., according to the Planning Division’s application materials. Applicants are required to provide technical studies, conduct neighborhood outreach and post public notices during the process before any final hearing can be penciled in.
