AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police officers responded to assist with a cargo train derailment Thursday morning in downtown Austin.
According to APD, the derailment occurred around 4:45 a.m. near Bowie Street and West Third Street. The Austin Fire Department evaluated that area, and nothing hazardous was found.
Officials confirmed the train was 230 cars long, and because it was stopped on the tracks, the railroad crossings at Mary Street and Oltorf Street were blocked. APD advised avoiding the areas while crews worked…
