RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Amazon is launching its first Same-Day Delivery facility in Northern Nevada and the second in the state. “Today we are here to celebrate the opening of our first ‘sub same-day’ facility. My role in celebration is my favorite part, which is to acknowledge, honor, and donate to one of the best non-profits that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Already a partner of ours, but today we are celebrating with a contribution of $10,00 to support their vital work,” said David Ambroz, Amazon’s Head of Community Engagement (NV).
The company provides a 1 to 3 hour delivery option. The new facility is on Herz Boulevard, spans 92,000 square feet and shifts the typical Amazon logistics model. “What’s really unique about this particular facility is just everything that is happening under the roof in one building. Our Amazon network generally works with a multi-facility network. Meaning first we take products into one facility, we sort them in another facility and then finally bring them to our “last mile” facility, where they end up in the van or the vehicle that ends up at your doorstep. This facility packages all of those unique operations under a single roof,” said Tareq Wafaie, the Economic Development Manager.
Amazon closed its North Reno fulfillment center last year to make way for this new one in South Reno. The company invested $40 million and aims to employ 250 people with average pay exceeding $23 per hour and total compensation exceeding $30 per hour with benefits. Health care is available from day one at $5 per week on Amazon’s entry-level plan. Through Career Choice, Amazon pre-pays 100% of tuition at more than 400 education partners, including the University of Nevada, Reno. “When we look at the entire region as a whole and the state as a whole, we have invested a lot of time and energy into creating a tremendous workforce in the State of Nevada. We have over 18,500 jobs in Nevada alone, and a lot of those are right here in Reno.”…
