On Alert: Enhanced severe weather risk targets Evansville area Monday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A cooler Friday will bring beneficial rain to the Evansville area, though most locations will see less than a quarter inch. While isolated thunderstorms are possible today, the real severe weather threat arrives Monday when widespread storms with the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail are possible.

Friday: Cooler with isolated storms

Expect mostly cloudy skies Friday as temperatures climb to 78 degrees. A 60% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop throughout the day. There is a very small chance a few storms could turn strong to severe, with gusty winds and hail as the main threat if they do develop. Most rain totals will be minimal — a quarter inch or less for most areas.

Tonight will remain mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms continuing. Temperatures will drop to 57 degrees, making it noticeably cooler than recent nights.

Weekend: A break before the storm

Saturday will start cloudy early, then clear out to mostly sunny skies with a high near 78 degrees. Saturday night will be mostly clear and cool, with lows dropping to 54 degrees.

Sunday looks pleasant with mostly sunny skies and a high of 80 degrees — a nice day to enjoy the outdoors before the next system moves in.
