Selling a home in San Diego? Experts say simple upgrades beat costly renovations

SAN DIEGO — Selling a home is more stressful than buying one, according to nearly half of homeowners surveyed in a new American Home Shield report. In San Diego, where the median home price hovers around $900,000, local real estate agents say the pressure is even greater.

More than half of sellers, 56%, described the process as overwhelming, and one in three said they wished they had understood the hidden costs before listing. One in six did not understand the selling process at all before they went through it.

“It’s not just a real estate transaction, it’s a lifetime transition,” said San Diego real estate agent Frank Powell with Powell Brothers Realty. “There’s an immense stress on the seller.”…
