Families sue over Belle Glade crash that killed 9, alleging unsafe detour, missing signs

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Families of nine people killed in a 2024 crash near Belle Glade have filed a lawsuit alleging dangerous road conditions and negligence by multiple agencies and companies.

The complaint, filed Wednesday in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, centers on an Aug. 5, 2024, crash along Hatton Highway that killed nine family members and left one survivor.

According to the lawsuit, a rented SUV carrying 10 relatives was traveling on a detour route toward Palm Beach International Airport when it failed to navigate a sharp curve, struck a guardrail and overturned into a canal. Nine passengers drowned…
