Man airlifted after fleeing deputies at over 110 mph in Berrien County, crashing into tree

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. — A 20-year-old Lawton man was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital Friday afternoon after leading a Berrien County Sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed chase that ended when his vehicle struck a tree and overturned.

The pursuit began around 1:20 p.m. on Territorial Road near N. Pike Road in Benton Township, when a deputy from the sheriff’s Secondary Road Patrol unit attempted to stop a Dodge Grand Caravan for a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop and sped away.

The suspect fled eastbound on Territorial Road at speeds exceeding 110 mph, running through multiple stop signs, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office. The chase ended when the driver failed to navigate a curve near N. Arent Road in Bainbridge Township.
