Father of Salina man who killed 2 police officers admits to illegal gun possession

Salina, N.Y. ― The father of a Salina man who fatally shot two police officers pleaded guilty Thursday to having an illegal rifle.

Joseph E. Murphy, 63, admitted to possessing a semiautomatic rifle capable of accepting a detachable magazine with a pistol grip, bayonet mount, flash suppressor and collapsible stock.

Judge Mary Anne Doherty promised him a sentence of shock probation in exchange for his plea. He will spend weekends in the Jamesville Correctional Facility for four months and be on probation for five years…
